WHY PLAY BY PLAY PARENTING?

Many parents read books, talk to friends, and get advice from co-workers about how to raise their children - but when contention, sibling rivalry, and frustration arise not many parents really know how to prevent or correct it. This program will help you to begin implementing practical skills that are specific to the needs of your own family while improving communication and increasing unity in your home!

• Create an environment for a fresh start for everyone that is willing to participate while offering patience for those who are more cautious about change

• Reduce anger and stress by creating a family plan for the effective management of your home and family

• Gain a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each of the five different God given temperaments within your family members.

WHAT IS "PLAY-BY-PLAY PARENTING" ALL ABOUT?

Every professional football team has a notebook that contains the descriptions and diagrams of the plays their team uses. The coaches and players depend on this information and are held accountable for abiding by what it says, because without it - team unity suffers, communication is lacking, and expectations would not be clearly stated.

 

Our goal is to help parents learn to "Coach" their own families, with this same level of commitment, by helping them design a personalized "Family Playbook" for the day to day management of their own home.

THE PLEDGE - THE PURPOSE - THE PLAN

THE PLEDGE

We begin by helping each parent determine which parenting skills they excel in and which need improvement. We stress the importance of examining your own strengths and shortcomings instead of pointing fingers at your spouse or children. This information will be used to create a personal pledge that will set the groundwork for opening communication within your family.

This step also includes completing A.P.S. Temperament Profiles for the parent(s). You can read more about this step by referring to the "Understanding Me - Understanding You" Care Group that we offer. This is an important tool that will help you to better understand yourself, your spouse, and your children. You will learn  why you interact, relate, and function together the way that you do. This information is essential in learning how to improve relationships and gain more peace and harmony in your family.

THE PURPOSE

If parents do not have a clearly defined purpose for their family there will not be a solid foundation for the children to follow. In this step we help you create a "Family Purpose Statement" that will become the framework for identifying the specific needs and goals of your family

THE PLAN

Whenever an important project is being considered -  thorough planning is essential. A purpose and/or mission is defined, budgets are set in place, day to day operations are outlined, the personnel positions and job descriptions are written, 1 year, 2 year, 5 year and 10 year goals are established and so much more! This is all done before the project actually begins in order to make sure everything will run smoothly and be successful.

Yet, when we take on the most important endeavor of our lives - getting married and having children - we simply "Wing It!" Rarely does any real planning or communication take place which means we simply end up taking it all as it comes! We would never consider operating a business in this way because it would be irresponsible. Stop and ask yourself: "Why do we put so little planning, effort, or communication into how we operate our own home and family?"

Play-by-Play Parenting has a step-by-step format that builds each week allowing you to develop and communicate your ideals, goals, and plans TOGETHER as a family. 

​

The family plan includes the specifics for the day-to-day operation of your home as well as clearly listing the rewards and consequences for positive and negative behaviors. The family plan reduces contention, teaches children to take responsibility for their own actions, and builds family unity!

THIS IS A FAITH-BASED LIFE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM - IT IS NOT COUNSELING 

Counseling sessions are recommended for some participants in addition to this program as they compliment each other very well. Gaining an understanding of how your own personal family history, relationships, and other life experiences have impacted the way that you deal with your family can be very insightful for some.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

This program is beneficial for all parents; singles, couples, divorcees, adoptive-parents, foster-parents, step-parents,  grandparents, and even future parents!

LENGTH OF SESSIONS

We meet for about 1 1/2 hours each week for 10 weeks

​

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?

Each week a specific topic will be discussed in a large group setting, with everyone who is currently attending Play-by-Play Parenting. We will then break up into "Small Groups" consisting of the adult or adult(s) in your own home, in order for you to think through what you have learned while determining how you will begin applying it for the specific needs of your own family.  We will end the evening in the large group setting so that any questions, comments, or stories about the progress your family is making can be shared! So much can be learned from the experiences of others who are also applying the practical tools that are offered each week!
